THE
CREATIVE EPIPHANY
GIFTED MINDS, GRAND
REALIZATIONS

The gifted men and women who have contributed
stories for this second book have all received a
message that came to them in a Creative
Epiphany; delivered from their angel in the
darkness, their wisdom, their soul, jolting them
forward toward more inspired creativity. They
have beat unbeatable odds in order to live their
life’s longings, some battling overwhelming
difficulties of their own making, with passion
driving them toward greater
self-knowledge and peace.
Listening is the only requirement for hearing
Epiphany’s Voice; audible as a whisper or shout in
your mind’s ear. Your well-being and balance are
Epiphany’s simple agenda; always guiding you
wisely toward the truth. Epiphanies might come

during chaos or calm, or in a humble moment
easily overlooked, or after years of unfolding.
Always, an Epiphany is life-changing, bringing
vivid realization and certitude. The illuminating
insight gained from a Creative Epiphany will
reassure you that in discovering your life’s
purpose you will reach fulfillment; finally

THE CREATIVE EPIPHANY
TABLE OF CONTENTS

INTRODUCTION
by Jo Ann Brown-Scott

Chapter One GIFTS FOR THE GIFTED
Kristin Leigh
A well-credentialed teacher with educational expertise in the field of gifted and talented children
lays the foundation for our book by alerting us to the early indications of creativity and
giftedness in children, and what types of experiences we can offer them to nurture and
enhance their unique intellect.

Chapter Two BATTLING WITH ENTITLEMENT
Adam R. Hand
A successful young contemporary artist and interior space designer writes candidly about his
high-pressure initiation into the world of the gifted and talented; and his fierce struggle to turn
his relationship with his gift from adversarial to amicable in a less than compassionate world.

Chapter Three JUST ANOTHER WORD
Kathy Park
A multi-faceted artist, quilter, musician, writer and Aikido instructor writes about her
experience teaching the mind-body connection in a women’s prison, where her eyes were
opened to the true meaning of freedom by the inmates, not so unlike herself, whom she grew to
know as friends.

Chapter Four I AM THE APPLAUSE
Christine Mahree Fowler
An accomplished art representative, real estate saleswoman and noted authority on African
artifacts writes about how her creativity is manifested in her own improvisational life; in a deep
understanding of the people who create and her ability to be their champion, their
representative, and their sincere advocate and how this love of the arts has opened the door to
a fascinating life.

Chapter Five MY MAGENTA RETURN
Randy Pijoan
A gifted contemporary artist and founder of a non-profit foundation for providing the artistic
experience to under-privileged children, writes about experiencing his own near-death; his
tortured journey back from the light to the frightening realities of earthly existence and
discovering that his life’s purpose was not simply to paint.

Chapter Six FIREPLACE MEDITATIONS
Kyle Moshrefi
A brilliant female poet with a mundane day job talks about early insecurities and fears that
threatened her health and well-being; how she was able to find strength in her love of playing
soccer until she was injured – then discovering that writing contemporary poetry opened an
avenue for expression that gave her back her love of life.

Chapter Seven THE JOURNEY
Captain Fred Rossiter
A Renaissance man; real estate broker, appraiser, County Magistrate, pilot and charter
captain/fishing guide tells about his mid-life crisis when he realized that time was more
important than money. Following that realization he reveals the ways he has reinvented himself,
making sense of the pieces of his life’s puzzle while following his bliss.

Chapter Eight WAR PAINT
Regan Rosburg
A full-time artist; young, beautiful and talented with a BFA and a bright future, who found herself
settling for less than she deserved as an exotic dancer in a gentleman’s club (and so good at it
that she was tempted to stay there) tells her story of being afraid to face her insecurities in
becoming a full-time artist. In her epiphany, experienced during the harsh realities of one late
night, the fire in her artistic soul was finally kindled.

Chapter Nine MY RIGHT BRAIN
Joe Milner, Lt. Colonel USAF
Currently stationed in Iraq, this officer writes about his life-long experience of feeling like a
round peg fitting himself into a square hole; the questions he always had about his “quirky”
thought processes, and finally discovering that in spite of his success in his chosen field he is
indeed a different kind of thinker than most of his peers.

Chapter Ten ANGELS ALONG THE WAY
Jane Jones
A gifted contemporary realist artist, teacher and writer, writes about the development of her
artistic career; the struggles and insecurities she overcame, and special people who appeared
just when she needed them, finally erasing any doubts that she is indeed an artist.

Chapter Eleven SCHEHERAZADE
Judi Lightfield
An enigmatic impressionistic artist and teacher writes about her talent for telling stories and
how one telling in particular may have saved her young life. She reveals how the personal
stories of her considerable losses in life are now emotionally represented in her glowing,
luminous landscapes.

Chapter Twelve AN ELEGANT SOLUTION
Jerald Lepinski
A highly accomplished Juilliard School graduate – musician, conductor and teacher – writes
about his logical yet revolutionary, innovative way of writing music so that very young children
and adults alike will find it easier to read and understand, thus fostering greater musical
appreciation and ease of learning.

Chapter Thirteen THE LUCKY
Shannon Paige Schneider
A talented yoga instructor and studio owner writes about her stubborn, potentially fatal, denial
during her surprisingly early brush with Cancer, and how one special woman doctor prescribed
yoga as a method of battling her illness; an epiphany about attitude and faith and triumph over
fear.

Chapter Fourteen HARLEYS AND OLD LACE
Richard “Ross” Rossiter
A gourmet chef, sales representative and sometime sculptor talks about “finding himself” with
the discovery of his three long-lost siblings as he entered his forties; and in learning of their
shared family genes, questions about his eclectic interests and artistic sensitivities were
suddenly answered.

Chapter Fifteen AWAKENING
Ria Moran
A fine artist, designer and writer, currently working on her own manuscript and its adjacent
projects she calls the “Soul Gold” vision, writes soulfully about her awakening to the spiritual
side of being artistic.

Chapter Sixteen SYM-BOL-ISM
T. McKinsey Morgan
A fabulous and feisty artist, bed & breakfast owner, teacher, employed at the U S Air Force
Academy by day, writes about the provocative biographical and biological symbolism in her art;
the courage required to accurately express herself and the cleansing that her art has brought
to her soul.

Chapter Seventeen TURNING IT AROUND
Adolfo H. Muñoz
A gifted organizational psychologist with a complicated and fascinating childhood talks about
his early struggles with speech problems and his greatest challenge in the corporate world,
when he was faced with the problem of motivating a staff of over a hundred people, infected
with an internal agenda of negativity, and bringing them around from turmoil to team
cooperation.

Chapter Eighteen THE LOVE OF MAKING ART
Jo Ann Brown-Scott
An artist and writer looks back over her sudden, decisive epiphany to paint with more serious
intention, followed by her enjoyment of artistic success; then how her “fifteen minutes of fame”
in the art world was cut short by changing trends in art and political circumstances, as is often
the case in the fickle world of art.

Chapter Nineteen DIAMONDS, KIDS AND KARMA
Laura Susskind
A gem of a jewelry designer tells us about arriving a bit late to the creative process and feeling
that the karma present in the new home that her family purchased could possibly have had a lot
to do with sparking her artistic soul.

The Journey
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.
